2008 has gone and I finally started a Blog. This entry will be, in a nut shell, about last year. First I would like to thank my sister-in-law and brother for their help in getting sponsorship from Keller Williams. They wrote the proposal letter, coordinated the logo design and basically made Blue Collar Velo go from a dream to an actually team. Thanks to Crocs for the sweet footwear, Honey Stinger for the energy to keep me riding, Maverick Bikes for the SWEET STEED, Maxxis for the great Treads, Greg Styles for Mental and Spiritual support and for Martial Arts Sponsorship, Zeal Optics for the awesome shades, and my wife and kids for putting up with my addiction.
I had a great year on the bike; I raced more this year than I have in the past 5 years. It started off with some road racing, then I moved solely to the Mountain Bike. I raced the Front Range 50 and the Firecracker 50, both of which I could have felt much better. I raced 2 Mountain States Cup races, Fruita and Nathrop, beautiful areas and great courses. Winter Park has always had some of the best courses in Colorado as well as great competition. I started out with the hill climb and raced 5 races in the series and ended up 2 nd overall out of 1st by one lousy point.
The next sufferfest was phycocross. I met up with Brook Watts of local Cross fame and we trained together at least 2 times a week. I had my best cross season to date. I raced in the 35 plus, old pros, and they are fast! I raced 8 times and had my best race at the Boulder Cup at Harlow Park. What a great course! After States I took two weeks off and enjoyed some much needed rest. The season was brought to a close with a party at our house with some old Cross racers I have known for a long time (Karl Keister, Chill Bill Haar, Brook Watts, Derrick Nickle and Reid Akerman). They all ride for Great Divide so we had some great beer and a potluck, Mexican style. Derrick Nickle supplied the entertainment as well as Reid Akerman. It was a great night of fun and drinks. Thanks Guys! Now I am recharged and ready for 2009.
